Fiat Chrysler rolls out new emission software for diesel vehicles


Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has unveiled new technology that it hopes will help it avoid a Volkswagenesque diesel emissions scandal.


The Auburn Hills, Michigan automaker has filed an application for a diesel vehicle emissions certificate with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board for a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine with new emissions software that, if approved, will be available in 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Ram 1500 vehicles.

Fiat Chrysler’s 2017 diesel sales are on hold as the EPA and CARB, the nation’s top two air quality regulators, investigate the company to determine if it had been using illegal emission-masking software in its vehicles just as Volkswagen had notoriously done in its TDI engines.
